    Mining explosives explode in house, injure man in Kuria

    A man was injured after explosives he was preparing for use at a mining site in Kehancha, Kuria went off in his house.

    The incident happened in Milka village and left the victim with leg injuries.

    The man told police he had set the explosives for use the following day on April 1 when they went off blowing his house.

    The iron sheets were blown off and he sustained some injuries on the legs.

    Anti terror police visited the scene and concluded the blast was caused by the materials used for mining.

    The team warned against handling the materials without a permit and not to store them in houses.

    Majority of miners use the explosives to blow out various minerals and stones.

    Authorities have been running a campaign to enlighten those using them on how they should be handled amid fears they can be misused.

    Elsewhere in Kegonga area, Kuria, the body of Itinde Marwa Kerario was found at Nyamagenga River in Nyamitamburo village.

    Police said the body had minimal injuries to the forehead.

    The family of the deceased he was epileptic.

    In Githurai Mwiki area, a 73-year-old man who was nursing epilepsy was found dead in his house.

    Laban Irungu Kihuno convulsed while at his compound and was rushed to a local hospital where he was confirmed dead on arrival.

    The body was moved to Kenyatta University Funeral home, awaiting postmortem.

    In Mbita Homabay County, a guard drowned at the shores of Lake Victoria while taking a shower.

    Evans Ochieng, 24, accidentally drowned at Kongeche lakeshore while taking a bath.

    The body was retrieved by members of the public and moved to Homabay Referral Hospital mortuary, awaiting postmortem.
