Nakuru Mattresses (Nakumatt) on Tuesday had its Nanyuki outlet closed over Sh36 million rent arrears.

The landlords forcefully evicted the struggling retailer by throwing out the remaining stock on the streets.

Passersby helped themselves to the items before police officers helped scatter the growing crowd.

On December 22, 2017 NSSF closed the Nakumatt Lifestyle outlet located at Hazina Towers over four months in rent arrears.

NSSF officials shut down the premises and clamped the retailer’s vehicles after receiving a court order to pursue the retailer.

The retailer had been the anchor tenant and is said to have accumulated Sh40 billion in debt.
