A section of Nakumatt employees on Tuesday held their demonstrations along Mombasa Rd heading to Nakumatt Holdings headquarters demanding payment for June and July.

This is barely a month after the organization issued a memo to its staff regarding the payment of their June salaries.

In the memo, Director Mr Atul Shah noted the delay in salaries was due to “financial and operational constraints.”

“The company has reviewed salary payment plans with an intention of ensuring that every employee gets a percentage of his/her salary every for a total of three weeks in a month.” the memo read

The staffs claim they haven’t received payment for the two months and now demand payments from their top bosses.

Nakumatt termed the strike as illegal and urged the staffs to return to their work stations

Nakumatt has urged its employees to return to their stations, saying the strike is illegal.

“A section of staff have not reported to their workstations. From a management perspective, that’s an illegal and unprotected strike. Management reserves the right to pursue the necessary disciplinary action,” a statement read in part.

“Management remains in contact with the Union and staff are advised to return to work and avoid jeopardizing ongoing restructuring efforts.”
