A night guard was clobbered to death in a robbery at a supermarket in Amakura area, Busia County.

Police said his colleague was seriously injured and rushed to hospital in a critical condition following the Thursday dawn incident at the Kotur market area.

The owner of the supermarket said he arrived at the premises and went to the security room to review footage for the night on the developments there.

He realized his guards were not responding to the room and there was no response to his calls.

On reviewing the footage, he realized there was an invasion during which one of the guards was hacked to death.

He called the police who arrived there and found the body of Philip Oputo, 41 near a toilet.

His colleagues raised his hand when he saw the police and was found with deep cuts in the head and lying unconscious.

Police said he was rushed to the hospital and admitted in a critical condition.

It was later established that the attackers stole 15 gas cylinders from the premises.

The body of the deceased guard was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

Police said they were pursuing the gang behind the incident. This came amid concerns of rising levels of crime in the area. Locals have called on authorities to take action to address the menace.

Elsewhere at Wilson Airport, Nairobi, suspected thugs broke into an electronic shop and stole Sh96,000 and a mobile phone.

The suspects are said to have broken into the shop on Wednesday night. Police said they are investigating the incident.

And police in Kuresoi, Nakuru County with officials from the ministry of agriculture raided a store in Keringet Town and impounded government fertilizer that had been offloaded from a lorry.

Officials said at least 113 half kilos of the fertilizer were recovered and a suspect arrested.

The police are investigating the incident.
