Nyandarua Members of County assembly are set to begin House business boycott on Tuesday.

The move is aimed at coercing the executive to fund a retreat to discuss budget implementation for the financial year 2018/2019.

According to the MCAs, the executive is slow in in implementing the development projects factored in the budget.

The Standard reports that if the executive gives a green light to their demands, the retreat will cost the county an average of Sh1.5 million per day.

The defiant MCAs are said to have passed the resolution last week following a motion brought fourth by budget implementation committee chairperson Isaac Wanjiru.

Wanjiru, who also doubles as Kipipiri Ward representative, accused the executive of failing to implement a supplementary budget estimates the house passed in January.

“I urge the House to consider and discuss the impact of the delays in the procurement process, delays in completion of the development projects and programmes and the implication of the delay or lack of of the implementation of the projects and programmes, ” read part of the motion.

Reports indicate that during the retreat, the MCAs will consider doing away with with e-procurement which has been overly criticized for delays.

The members want the procurement process to be decentralized from the county treasury.

They further appeal that a requirement, introduced by the executive, for an internal audit before payments are made, to be annulled.

However, the motion was criticized by Majority Leader Wambugu King’ori and Kaimbaga Ward MCA Gathure Wambui, who defended the executive against accusations directed at its members.

The two, who stood out strongly against the motion, termed the move ill-advised and malicious.

“We cannot stand on the floor to make false accusations and unrealistic demands. I am also bothered by the way the motion was sneaked into the House and the speed at which the Speaker allowed it, adjourning other business of the day,” said Ms Gathure.

In September, 2018, the MCAs ousted their Majority Leader Peter Gathungu Kamau.

Also removed during the meeting that voted out Kamau was his deputy, Ken Mukira Muhianyu and Majority Chief Whip Hussein Ndung’u Kasana.

In October 2018, the assembly was also marred with chaos that left several journalists injured.

Among those who were injured include Waikwa Maina (Nation) Ndichu Wainana (The Star) and Patrice Simbili (Royal Media Services).
