Press Release
PCCW Global Limited, a subsidiary of Hong Kong’s premier telecommunications provider, PCCW Limited, and Kenya Data Networks (KDN), Kenya’s leading full service data communications carrier, have successfully conducted the first High-Definition Video Conferencing (HDVC) connecting the United States, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Kenya.
The link-up is the first HDVC live demonstration connecting Kenya to multiple destinations outside of Africa. The demonstration has been made possible by the interconnected MPLS VPN networks between PCCW Global and KDN. High-level executives from key industries in Kenya are invited to the demonstration to witness the benefits that HDVC solutions can bring to business operations.
Mr. Frederick Chui, PCCW Global’s Senior Vice President, EMEA, said, “PCCW Global manages the entire HDVC demonstration, and provides advanced VC terminals as well as our robust and resilient global MPLS VPN network. Our HDVC solutions maximize efficiency by cutting travel time, costs and risks. We will collaborate with KDN to capture the rising demand of high-bandwidth solutions such as HDVC after the landing of three submarine cables to the country in recent years. We offer our customers a satisfying VC experience.”
Mr. Rikus Matthyser, KDN’s Chief Executive Officer, said, “We are continually looking to add value to our customers and this is one such initiative. KDN’s extensive network in the region has a positive effect on the productivity of our customers and these video conferencing services will go a long way in helping to save on their time and money.”
PCCW Global and KDN have developed a close strategic relationship. In July 2010 they signed the MPLS Inter-Carrier Interconnection agreement. Through PCCW Global’s vast and robust network, KDN has extended its international coverage to over 110 countries and more than 1,500 cities around the world. The MPLS networks are connected in Singapore and London through multiple STM 4 connections running on multiple cable systems such as TEAMS, SMW4 and SEACOM. This enables PCCW Global and KDN to provide a fully redundant, stable and low latency network to enterprise customers.
