Petro Atletico of Angola beat Gor Mahia 2-1 in Luanda to record their first Group D win in the Caf Confederation Cup on Wednesday.

Manguxi brought 11th November Stadium to life with a fine strike in the 12th minute after being set up by Azulao to open the scoring.

In the build up to the goal, Brazilian Azulao picked an incomplete pass from Batambuze, crossed it to Manguxi who picked his spot very well before placing the ball past Boniface Oluoch with panache on the far left.

Before the goal, Gor Mahia has settled well and bossed the proceedings but lacked the finishing touch.

Another Brazilian Tony doubled the hosts’ lead in the 38th minute, squeezing in a header from Job’s left cross.

Job was a handful for Joash Onyango who was a makeshift right back for K’Ogalo, covering for suspended Philemon Otieno.

The coach Hasan Oktay’s side still remained calm and continued to enjoy possession throughout the game but finishing remained their weakness.

Substitute Nicholas Kipkirui, who replaced off colour Francis Mustafa grabbed the consolation with a flicking header in the added minutes of the second half.

Efforts to get the second were time barred as the hosts managed to hold on for the maximum points.

In the other fixture of the group NA Hussein Dey of Algeria managed to pick a point away to Zamalek of Egypt after a 1-1 draw to go top of the group on four points.

Hussein next face Gor Mahia, who are now second in the group standings on 3 points same as Petro Atletico, on 24th February at the Kasarani Stadium.
