The Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced vacancies for top leadership positions at several public universities in Kenya.

In a public notice issued on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the PSC invited applications for the position of Vice Chancellor (VC) at the University of Nairobi (UoN), Kenyatta University (KU), and Maseno University.

The commission also advertised additional senior management positions. At the University of Nairobi, PSC is seeking to recruit a Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs) and a Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance, Planning and Development). At Laikipia University, the vacant position is Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic, Research and Student Affairs).

Currently, Prof. Margaret Jesang’ Hutchinson is serving as the acting Vice Chancellor at the University of Nairobi.

At Kenyatta University, Prof. Paul K. Wainaina is the substantive Vice Chancellor after he was reinstated following a court ruling in April 2025. The ruling came after a leadership dispute involving his contract and attempts by the university council to send him on leave and recruit a new VC. During parts of that period, Prof. Waceke Wanjohi, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, served as acting VC. She is now back to her role as DVC Academics.

The PSC said full details of the advertised positions, including qualifications and application procedures, are available on its website at www.publicservice.go.ke.

Interested and qualified candidates are required to submit their applications to the commission on or before January 9, 2026, by 5:00 pm East African Time.
