An employee of a road construction company was found dead after he had been shot by unknown gunmen in Bura, Garissa County.

The incident happened on March 1, 2026 evening and involved Ancient Muli Kasole, 42. He was a mechanic and was also driving a road mixed alone from one site to the other when he was attacked.

His body was found on the roadside while the mixer he was driving was still running on the road.

Police said the body had a gunshot wound in the stomach and a deep cut in the back of the head.

The camp is usually under the guard of the military and it is believed it was infiltrated by gunmen then and unnoticed.

The victim worked for the China Construction Company which worked on the Lapset Corridor roads in the area.

The motive of the murder was not immediately known. Officials linked the same to the terror al Shabaab militants operating in the area.

The discovery of the body raised alertness in the camp amid fears of an attack by the al Shabaab militants.

A major operation was mounted but no arrest was made. The operation was mounted again on Monday in the area in vain.

The body of the victim was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures, police said. The area is among those near the Kenya-Somalia border which have been under pressure from the militants.

The gang has been attacking security personnel and workers in the area as part of their terror campaigns. Kenya has responded by deploying more personnel to ensure general security.

The attacks have stalled many development plans in the area at large amid consistent calls for cooperation to tame them.

The area is under the multi-agency security operation and is near the Kenya-Somalia border. The multi-agency operation seeks to flush out the militants from the.

This has seen a significant reduction in such incidents

Somalia has not had a stable government to be able to address the security demands since the 1991 overthrow of President Siad Barre’s military regime, which ushered in more than two decades of anarchy and conflict in a country deeply divided along clan lines.
