President William Ruto has appointed three new university chancellors and made several changes across public institutions and state boards in the latest round of government appointments.
In a gazette notice issued on Thursday, April 2, the President named Rita Kavashe as Chancellor of Pwani University, Paul Russo as Chancellor of Kibabii University, and Dr Kevit Desai as Chancellor of University of Kabianga. The three will serve five-year terms.
Russo’s appointment comes shortly after he was named an independent board member of the National Infrastructure Fund (NIF).
In other changes, Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua appointed Geoffrey K. Maritim as Non-Executive Chairperson of the National Employment Authority board for a three-year term.
Information, Communications and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo appointed Naiyanoi Ntutu as a board member of the Information and Communications Technology Authority, and Mwangi J. Nderitu to the board of the Communications Authority of Kenya.
Gender Cabinet Secretary Hanna Wendot Cheptumo made appointments to the Women Enterprise Fund Advisory Board, reappointing Yvonne Nalokitoo Tonkei and naming Wesley Kipchumba Keitany and Ebla Haji Aden as new members for three-year terms.
In efforts to combat female genital mutilation, Beatrice Mwarania Mburugu and Saphina Chelagat were appointed to the Anti-Female Genital Mutilation Board for six-year terms.
Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho appointed Lucy Mirigo Micheni to the Mineral Rights Board, while Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba appointed Njenga Benjamin Kahura as Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kabete National Polytechnic Council and reappointed Honey Abdi Mohamud as a member.
Cornelius Kibet Some was also appointed to the Kipsoen National Polytechnic Council for a three-year term, while Trade Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui reappointed Anthony Wainaina to the Special Economic Zones Authority board.
At the Lake Basin Development Authority, several members including Teresa Bitutu Oroo, Willis Omondi Orowe and Hellen Makone were reappointed for another three-year term.
In the health sector, Dr David Kipchirchir Rotich was appointed to the board of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, while Thomas Kipkosgei Cheruiyot was reappointed to the board of Kenyatta National Hospital.
Meanwhile, Chief Justice Martha Koome appointed Elias Ngugi Mwenda and Lily Monica Nafula to handle cases related to corruption and economic crimes.
