President William Ruto departed Kenya, May 4, 2026, for a two-day state visit to Tanzania, where he will hold high-level talks with his host, Samia Suluhu Hassan.

During the visit, President Ruto and President Suluhu will first engage in a one-on-one meeting before leading official bilateral discussions between Kenyan and Tanzanian delegations.

The talks are expected to focus on strengthening the longstanding ties between the two nations, particularly in trade, investment, infrastructure, and transport, alongside other areas of mutual interest.

The two leaders will also witness the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding and cooperation agreements aimed at deepening collaboration.

In addition, they are scheduled to participate in a Business Forum bringing together investors and business leaders from both countries to explore new economic opportunities.

On Tuesday, May 5, President Ruto is expected to address the Parliament of Tanzania in Dodoma, marking a key highlight of the visit. He will later return to Kenya after concluding the official engagements.
This will be the first such a session under Ruto and his host Suluhu Hassan.

In a communication from the office of Tanzania’s Speaker of Parliament, members were formally notified of the upcoming address, scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

“The Clerk of Parliament announces that on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, the President of Kenya William Ruto will address the Tanzanian Parliament from 11 a.m.,” said the speaker.

The speaker described the address as a significant and historic occasion, expected to be attended by top national leaders.

“This important and historic event, which will also be attended by top national leaders, aims to strengthen the relationship and brotherhood between the United Republic of Tanzania and the Republic of Kenya,” the statement added.

Members of Parliament were urged to attend the sitting without fail to listen to the address by the visiting Head of State.

“Honourable Members of Parliament, you are all urged to attend without fail on this important day to listen to the visiting Head of State address Parliament and the nation at large,” the Speaker.

The visit underscores ongoing efforts by Nairobi and Dodoma to deepen regional cooperation within the East African bloc.
