The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Uganda’s National Resistance Movement (NRM) have finalised a framework to foster cooperation between the two parties.
In a joint Communique issued at Hustler Plaza, Secretary General Hassan Omar and his NRM counterpart Richard Todwong explained that both parties would benefit from specialized, transformative training in their respective areas of expertise.
The NRM delegation learnt from the working of the Presidential Economic Council towards the Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), while the UDA counterpart will benefit from the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi.
During their 3-day official tour to the country, the NRM team also held talks with Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja and toured Kibra’s affordable housing project before jetting back to Kampala.
At the meeting were UDA National Treasurer Japheth Nyakundi, Deputy Secretary General Omboko Milemba, Deputy Executive Director Brian Mbugua, Directors Daniel Kiptoo, Rob Jillo, Grace Gicovi, Nathaniel Mong’are, Margaret Ndanyi, Sam Mwangi, Halake Waqo, Joseph Mulili, among others.
UDA has also been working to forge an alliance with the communist party of China which many say is dictatorial.
In April 2025, UDA led a delegation to Beijing to strengthen its relationship with the Communist Party of China (CPC) as it seeks to solidify its support ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Omar met leaders of the CPC Fuzhou Municipal Committee.
The meeting was hosted by Guo Ningning, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Fujuan Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Fuzhou Municipal Committee.
The engagement focused on strengthening party-to-party relations, enhancing mutual understanding, and exploring areas of collaboration between Kenya and China at the party level.
The CPC leaders shared insights into their strategies for effective governance, grassroots mobilisation, and sustainable urban development in Fuzhou.
Omar, a former Mombasa Senator, emphasised UDA’s interest in learning from the CPC’s long-standing organisational structures and people-centred development approach, noting the value such exchanges bring to emerging political movements in Africa.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for the UDA delegation to present its vision for Kenya, particularly in building a structured and ideologically grounded party framework through initiatives like the UDA Leadership Academy.
“Drawing parallels between the CPC’s disciplined approach to leadership development and UDA’s aspirations, both parties expressed a shared commitment to fostering people-driven governance,” a dispatch from UDA’s office said.
Deepen ties
Guo invited Kenya to the World Maritime Equipment Conference that is scheduled to be held in October this year.
Omar assured that Kenya will participate in the event.
The discussions concluded with a mutual desire to deepen bilateral ties through training, knowledge exchange, and continuous dialogue setting a strong foundation for future cooperation between UDA and the CPC at both national and sub-national levels.
Omar further led a delegation to the iconic Great Wall of China. Standing atop the centuries-old fortification, the delegation reflected on the monumental scale and historic resilience embodied in the Wall’s construction.
Guided by local historians, the delegation learned how the Great Wall served not just as a military defense, but also as a symbol of unity and national identity, built through the cooperation of diverse communities across ancient China.
Omar noted how such a lasting structure reflected visionary leadership, long-term planning, and national commitment, values he believes Kenya must continue to embrace.
