Shane Lowry is an Irish professional golfer known for his powerful play, charismatic personality, and deep roots in Irish sport.

Shane has at least two siblings: a brother named Alan and a sister named Sinead.

Alan married his partner Amy in early 2025, an event Shane and his wife Wendy attended, and the couple welcomed their first child, a son, in September 2025.

Career

Lowry’s introduction to golf came through his father Brendan, who was a keen player and former professional in the sport after his football days.

Growing up in Clara, Shane developed his game at local courses and quickly showed talent.

As an amateur, he made headlines in 2009 by winning the Irish Open at County Louth as a 22-year-old, becoming only the third amateur to win a European Tour event in the modern era.

He turned professional shortly afterward and earned his European Tour card.

Lowry’s breakthrough on the professional stage included a victory at the 2015 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, his first PGA Tour title.

He added further wins, including the 2019 Abu Dhabi Championship and the iconic 2019 Open Championship at Royal Portrush, where he held off challengers in front of passionate home crowds to claim the Claret Jug.

This victory marked a high point in Irish golf and came 37 years after his father’s All-Ireland success.

Lowry has secured multiple titles on the DP World Tour, including Rolex Series events, and has represented Europe in the Ryder Cup on several occasions, contributing to team victories in 2021, 2023, and 2025.
