The Nairobi County Government has found that the Fleet and Mechanical Department has over the years been stealing from the public by inflating mechanical fees and grounding county vehicles.
On Tuesday, Governor Mike Sonko found that three brand new ambulances belonging to Mama Lucy hospital had remained grounded for close to two years.
Mechanics responsible for their repair demanded for Sh2 to 2.6 million to have them up and running.
But the county boss explains that City Hall engineers fixed the ‘faulty’ engines for Sh100.
“Today (Tuesday), I instructed City Hall engineers to repair the grounded Ambulances and they only bought two fuses worth Sh100 bob to revive them,” Sonko said.

The governor, who remains without a deputy, is also on a mission to flush out street families from the city’s Central Business District (CBD).
“The rescued street children will receive treatment of their addiction in our rehabilitation centers as well as get life skills including enrolling them back in school.”
