A 48-year-old primary school teacher was found dead in a room at a bar and restaurant in Yala Market, Siaya County, in what police are treating as a suspected sudden death.

The deceased, identified as Collins Abong’o, a teacher at Bar-Shauri Primary School, was found lying on his back on a bed while fully dressed at K Annex Bar and Restaurant on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

The incident was reported by the manager of the establishment.

Police officers visited and processed the scene.

Preliminary investigations established that Abong’o had arrived at the restaurant at around 11am in the company of three people, among them his biological brother.

The group was served alcoholic drinks, but Abong’o reportedly did not take any as he appeared to be already intoxicated.

While at the premises, Abong’o became weak, prompting his brother to book a room for him to rest.

At about 8pm, one of the people in his company went to check on him and discovered that he had died.

Police said the body had no visible injuries.

The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to Yala Level IV Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death.

Meanwhile, an 80-year-old man died while receiving treatment after he was allegedly assaulted by a relative during a family fight in Manga Sub-County, Nyamira County.

The deceased, identified as Joseph Matakaro Nyachaki, was reportedly attacked at around 8 pm on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at his family homestead.

Police said Matakaro sustained serious head injuries after he was allegedly hit with a blunt object by his 35-year-old nephew.

A local informed the police that a fight had broken out within the family.

Police visited the scene and established that the elderly man had been assaulted before being rushed to Ram Hospital in Kisii for treatment.

However, he succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention.

His body was moved to the hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.

Police have commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal family assault.
