Three people were killed in a fiery road crash early Saturday morning after a BMW lost control and crashed into a footbridge along Raila Odinga Road in Nairobi’s Kilimani area.

The self-involved accident occurred at about 3:00 a.m. near the Riara Footbridge. Police said the vehicle was travelling from the Lang’ata direction towards the city when the driver lost control.
The BMW veered off the left side of the road, struck a pavement and crashed into the footbridge before bursting into flames.

The driver and two passengers, whose identities had not been established by the time of the report, were trapped inside the vehicle and were burnt beyond recognition.

Emergency responders and police officers rushed to the scene, where efforts to retrieve the bodies and remove the wreckage were still underway.

Police visited the scene and launched investigations to establish the cause of the crash.
The bodies will be moved to the mortuary for identification and post-mortem examination once they are recovered.

And a six-month-old baby girl died after a fire gutted her family’s house in Nyamira County while her mother had briefly stepped out to buy diapers.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning at Kiamogiti Village in Bonyunyu Sublocation, Rigena Location, within Masaba North Sub-county.

According to police, the child’s mother left her daughter, identified as Queen Bochere Geoffrey, asleep on a bed inside their semi-permanent house at about 9:00 a.m. before going to Nyabara Four Shopping Centre to buy diapers.

When she returned, she found the bedroom engulfed in flames. Despite efforts by members of the public to extinguish the fire, the infant had suffered fatal burns.

Police officers visited the scene, documented and processed it as investigations commenced.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established.

The child’s body was taken to Ichuni Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
