Police in Nairobi are investigating a disturbing incident in which two women were seriously injured in a suspected acid attack before members of the public turned on the alleged attacker in an act of mob injustice.

The incident, reported Tuesday evening at around 6:53 pm, occurred along Ngong Road near Quavers Lounge, within the Kilimani area.

The case was reported by a boda boda rider.

Police officers on patrol responded swiftly and found a male suspect being assaulted by a mob.

Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect allegedly poured an unknown corrosive substance, believed to be acid, on two women who are said to be workmates at Charge 24 and were walking home at the time of the attack.

The victims sustained serious injuries affecting the face, chest, arms, and lower limbs.

They were initially rushed to Equity Afia and Nairobi Women’s Hospital for emergency treatment. One of them was later referred to Kenyatta National Hospital for specialised care due to the severity of her injuries.

The suspect was rescued from the mob by police and taken to Mbagathi Hospital, where he is receiving treatment under police guard.

Authorities have condemned the mob action and warned the public against taking the law into their own hands, even in serious incidents. Investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and to determine the exact substance used.

The case highlights growing concerns over both violent assaults and mob justice incidents, with police urging residents to report crimes and allow due process to take its course.

Meanwhile, police in Elgeyo Marakwet County are investigating a suspected murder following the death of a man who was allegedly assaulted by a neighbour in Keiyo South Sub-County.

Detectives handling the matter said the incident was reported on March 17, 2026.

A relative said that his father, identified as David Kipkorir, had not returned home the previous night. He was later found lying unconscious on the ground in the Kapkitony area by a neighbour.

The victim had blood oozing from his mouth and nose and a visible bruise on his forehead, indicating possible assault. Family members rushed him to Kamwosor Sub County Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition.

However, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment hours later.

Preliminary inquiries indicate that the deceased may have been assaulted by a neighbour during an altercation at a bar in Kapkitony town on March 16 at about 5 pm.

The body of the deceased is expected to undergo a post-mortem examination as investigations continue.
