A 34-year-old woman died after she was bitten by a suspected poisonous snake at her home in Ijara, Garissa County.
The deceased, identified as Ubah Khalif Omar, was reportedly bitten by a cobra at about 4pm on Friday, October 2, 2026, in Bullagolol Location, Ijara Ward.
According to police, Ubah was taken to Ijara Health Centre for treatment before being transferred to a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) camp at Ruqa, where she received further treatment.
She was later referred to Masalani Sub-County Hospital but died while being transported to the facility.
Ubah was buried on Saturday morning in accordance with Islamic traditions.
The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) office in Masalani was informed of the incident.
The team embarked on a mission to search for the snake. Such incidents have been common in the region amid calls for action to capture them for safety of all.
And police in Ruiru, Kiambu County, are investigating the death of a man whose body was found near a church fence.
The incident was reported at Gatongora Police Station on October 2, 2026, at about 10.20pm.
Police said the presiding pastor of Christ Our Church, discovered the unresponsive body of a man believed to be aged about 30 at around 8pm.
The body was found lying next to the fence surrounding the church. The pastor also noticed that the church door had been broken into and immediately alerted police.
Police officers visited the scene and confirmed the death.
Preliminary examination of the body revealed a deep burn-like injury on the left rib cage, with police suspecting that the man may have been electrocuted.
The Ruiru Crime Scene Investigation team processed and documented the scene.
The body was removed to General Kago Funeral Home, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
