Police in Kiambu East Sub-County launched investigations into the death of a 35-year-old woman whose body was found inside her house alongside a foetus, in an incident being treated as a suspected abortion procurement case.

According to a police report, the incident was reported on the morning of May 30 after a tenant alerted the landlord that a woman was lying motionless on the floor of her unlocked house in a pool of blood.

Police responded to the report and visited the scene, where they found the body of Lucy Muthoni Irungu, 35, lying lifeless inside the house. Police said a foetus attached to the placenta was also found at the scene.

Crime Scene Investigations (CSI) officers from Kiambu processed and documented the scene as part of ongoing investigations.

The body was later removed to the Kiambu Level 5 Hospital Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.

Police said investigations are continuing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Such incidents of unsafe abortion are on the rise amid a push for a safe trend in general in society.

Meanwhile, police in Gatanga Sub-County, Murang’a County, have launched investigations into the death of an unidentified man whose body was found by the roadside near Del Monte Dam along the Thika–Kenol Road on Saturday morning.

The incident was reported after members of the public discovered the body lying near the busy highway in Samuru Sub-Location.

According to police, the deceased was an African male believed to be about 40 years old. The body was found naked and lying by the roadside.

Preliminary observations revealed visible bruises on the legs and back. Investigators suspect the man may have been run over by a motor vehicle, although the circumstances leading to his death remain unclear.

The scene was documented and processed by crime scene investigators before the body was removed to Kirwara Level IV Hospital Mortuary.

Police said the body will undergo a post-mortem examination and fingerprint processing to help establish the identity of the deceased.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of death and whether any foul play was involved.
