Police in Machakos County have launched investigations into the murder of a 48-year-old woman whose body was found with multiple stab wounds near the Joska-Kamulu Bridge on Sunday evening.

The victim, identified by relatives as Agnes Mutheu, was discovered lying beside the road at around 7.45 pm by members of the public traveling from Joska towards Kamulu.

According to police, good Samaritans, including motorcycle riders, rushed the injured woman to Bahati Hospital in Joska in an attempt to save her life. However, she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The incident was reported by the hospital officials who informed officers that the woman had been brought to the facility with multiple stab wounds.

A witness who helped rescue the victim told investigators that he found her lying near the roadside before joining other members of the public in taking her to hospital.

Police officers visited the facility and established that the woman had sustained multiple stab wounds to the neck, hands, back and buttocks.

Investigators also recovered evidence suggesting a possible sexual assault attempt. Police said the victim’s undergarment had been cut, an indication that the attacker may have attempted to rape her before or during the fatal assault.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Joska processed and documented the scene as investigations into the motive and circumstances surrounding the killing commenced.

The body remained at Bahati Hospital pending transfer to Patjud Mortuary for preservation and a post-mortem examination.

No arrests had been made by the time of filing the report.

Elsewhere, a 49-year-old man was found dead in his house in Kandara, Murang’a County, in an incident reported to police on Sunday night.

The deceased, identified as Julius Mwangi Mwaura, was discovered at his residence within his mother’s compound in Ng’araria village.

According to family members, Mwaura had been battling tuberculosis and was living alone in the house.

Police visited the scene and found the body lying on a bed in a supine position. Investigators reported that there were no visible injuries on the body.

An inhaler was recovered next to the deceased, raising the possibility that he may have experienced a medical emergency before his death.

The scene was processed and documented by investigators before the body was removed to General Kago Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Police said the autopsy will help establish the exact cause of death as investigations continue.
