A 23-year-old man was killed following a violent confrontation between two groups of youths during a community construction project in Kayole, Nairobi.

The deceased, identified as Edwin Musanga, had joined members of the East-Side Youth Group in constructing a security wall at Bamao in Kirima area on Friday morning as part of efforts to secure a community goat-rearing project.

According to police, the incident occurred at about 11 a.m. after one of the labourers, said to be from Chokaa area, accidentally slipped and fell onto the freshly built wall, causing part of the wet structure to collapse.

The mishap reportedly angered some members of the East-Side Youth Group, who attempted to assault the labourer. He fled towards Hurlingham direction to escape the attack.

Police said the chase drew in another group of youths from Chokaa, triggering a confrontation between the two groups.

During the ensuing scuffle, Musanga sustained serious injuries. He was initially rushed to Emmanuel Hospital in Chokaa before being referred to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police officers who were on patrol responded to the scene and managed to contain the violence.

Crime scene investigators visited both the primary and secondary scenes, processed and documented the evidence, while Musanga’s body was moved to the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal confrontation and identify those responsible for the killing. No arrests had been announced by the time of filing the report.

And a 58-year-old man was brutally hacked to death while another man was left critically injured in an attack believed to be linked to a family dispute in Ndhiwa Sub-County, Homa Bay County.

The deceased was identified as Joseph Ochieng Mogo.

The injured was taken to hospital after suffering multiple deep cuts.

According to police, the incident was reported on Friday morning after residents discovered Mogo’s body at Kochiri/Ngo’pe Village in North Kabuoch Location.

Officers who visited the scene found Mogo’s body lying face down in a pool of blood. He had sustained multiple deep cuts to the head and face, while one of the fingers on his right hand had been chopped off.

Investigators established that Mogo had left his home at around 6 a.m. to plough his farm across the road before he was attacked. His wife told police she was later informed by their son that her husband had been killed.

Police said the widow also revealed that the deceased had previously received threats from his son, Wycliffe Odhiambo, over an undisclosed family dispute.

Detectives conducted an extensive search of the scene but did not recover the murder weapon.

The body was moved to Ndhiwa Sub-County Hospital Mortuary for preservation and a post-mortem examination.

Police also visited the injured victim at Homa Bay County Referral Hospital as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify those responsible. No arrests had been announced by the time of filing the report.
