Police have arrested at least 10 people over the killing of Red Cross Volunteer, Amina Bakari, in Lamu.

Ms Bakari was hacked to death in Mbwajumwali village, Lamu East, four days ago.

According to reports, Bakari, who was also a Nyumba Kumi official, was murdered by unknown assailants as she closed her shop at around 11 pm.

It is noted that her body was discovered by neighbors, who rushed her to Mbwajumwali dispensary where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Speaking to the media, distressed neighbors called on the police to begin a door-to-door crackdown to find Bakari’s killers.

Lamu county commissioner Joseph Kanyiri mentioned that the suspects were arrested in Mbwajumwali village.

Officer Kanyiri asserted that the 10 arrested are suspected to have taken part in the gruesome killing of the Red Cross volunteer.

He further divulged that some of the suspects were found in possession of drugs.

This confirmed earlier suspicion that she was killed by a drug gang as most attacks and killings in the area are linked to drugs.
