An elderly pedestrian was hit and killed by a vehicle in President William Ruto’s motorcade at Adams Arcade, Ngong Road, Nairobi.

The victim, a foreign national, was struck while crossing at a zebra crossing, unaware of the fast-moving convoy.

The motorcade was heading toward Kibera as the president continued his fourth day of touring Nairobi when the accident occurred.

According to witnesses, the vehicle involved did not stop. Police sources explained that stopping was not an option due to security protocols, as the president’s car was only a few meters behind.

The incident attracted a large crowd before police arrived to secure the scene and move the body to the mortuary for an autopsy and identification.

National Police Service spokesperson Michael Muchiri confirmed the accident and stated that investigations are ongoing.

“Following a road traffic accident that occurred today at Adams Arcade along Ngong Road involving a government vehicle, which resulted in the death of a pedestrian who is a foreign national, the National Police Service (NPS) is now handling the matter, and investigations have commenced,” Muchiri said in a statement.

The accident caused a traffic snarl-up in the area, as presidential convoys typically move at high speeds for security reasons.

Meanwhile, during his visit to Lang’ata, President Ruto announced plans to expand technical training and housing projects.

He pledged to build more classrooms and equip Lang’ata Technical and Vocational College to train over 2,000 youth, boosting economic growth.

He also commissioned affordable housing projects in Lang’ata and Kibra, emphasizing the government’s commitment to transforming informal settlements into modern residential areas.
