A multi-agency team led by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has seized a major consignment of bhang in Kisii County.

The operation, conducted on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, in Mwamogeza Village, uncovered large quantities of the illegal substance hidden in rental houses.

During the raid in Kiamuasi Location, Daraja Mbili sub-location, officers recovered seven 50kg sacks, four 90kg sacks, and two large carrier bags of suspected cannabis sativa.

However, the prime suspect, Geoffrey Nyabira, alias Jeff, managed to escape. Authorities have identified him as a high-priority target and are intensifying efforts to apprehend him.

“We are not relenting in our pursuit of drug barons, their merchants, and distribution networks,” said NACADA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Anthony Omerikwa. “This seizure is a testament to our resolve. We will hunt down every individual profiting from the destruction of our youth and communities.”

Three suspects were arrested during the operation and will be arraigned in court to aid in investigations.

Law enforcement agencies are also working to determine the street value of the seized drugs as they tighten the search for Nyabira, who has evaded arrest multiple times.

Dr. Omerikwa urged the public to support the fight against drug abuse by providing crucial information to authorities.

“Community involvement is key. Report suspicious activities—your tip could save lives and help us dismantle these criminal networks for good,” he said.

The raid is part of NACADA’s intensified crackdown on narcotics ahead of a broader national campaign against substance abuse.

Security agencies have vowed to sustain operations until all drug hotspots are eliminated.

NACADA has assured the public that similar raids will continue across the country as efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse intensify.
