Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi on Saturday lectured politicians against politicking at funerals.

Addressing mourners at the Kabarak University in Nakuru, Mudavadi condemned politicians who often attend funerals and drive their political agendas despite not knowing who the deceased is.

Speaking at the funeral mass of Jonathan Moi, Mudavadi asserted: “I would like to urge my fellow politicians against politicking at funerals.

“You would find a politician doesn’t know who the deceased is, their gender, or name. But leads the pack in politicking when he or she is handed the microphone to speak,” he stated.

He further mentions that most politicians end up mumbling when a preacher inquires how they knew the deceased.

“Even when they are accorded the opportunity to speak at funerals, they say ‘sorry’ to the grieving family for just one minute and use the remainder of their time to insult other politicians,” Mudavadi noted.

Terming that as ‘inappropriate habits’ the ANC leader told off his peers asking them to refrain from such.

Mudavadi was among the leaders present at the funeral service of former President Daniel Moi’s eldest son, Jonathan Moi.

Also present at the event was Deputy President William Ruto, who made a rare show by extending a handshake with Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.

Jonathan succumbed to pancreatic cancer on Friday, April 19.

He was laid to rest at his Kabimoi home in Baringo County.
