    Siblings

Adam has one older brother, Jesper Boqvist, who is roughly two years his senior and plays as a center in the NHL.

The brothers, both born in Sweden, grew up in a hockey family in Hedemora and have maintained a close relationship throughout their careers.

They trained together, shared an apartment while preparing for their NHL debuts, and have faced each other in games.

In 2024, both signed with the Florida Panthers, allowing them to play together briefly before Adam moved to the New York Islanders.

Jesper has enjoyed success, including contributing to a Stanley Cup championship with Florida, while the siblings continue to support one another in the league.

    Career

Boqvist began his hockey journey in Swedish youth programs with Hedemora SK and Brynäs IF, progressing through junior ranks where he showcased strong offensive production as a defenseman.

He played in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) and Allsvenskan before moving to North America.

In 2018-19, he joined the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and exploded offensively, recording 20 goals and 60 points in 54 games, leading Knights defensemen in multiple categories.

He made his NHL debut with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2019-20, posting solid rookie numbers.

After two seasons in Chicago, he was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets, where he spent three campaigns and enjoyed his most productive stretch, including an 11-goal, 22-point season in 2021-22.

Injuries impacted his consistency in Columbus.

In 2024, he signed with the Florida Panthers to join his brother Jesper but saw limited action before being claimed off waivers by the New York Islanders in January 2025.

He re-signed with the Islanders for the 2025-26 season and has continued as a depth defenseman capable of contributing offensively.

Through over 270 NHL games, Boqvist has accumulated around 27 goals and 76 assists.

    Accolades

Boqvist’s junior career was decorated with several honors in Sweden, including J18 Best U18 Defenseman, most goals by a defenseman in J18 Elit (West) and J20 SuperElit (Top), along with strong performances in international youth tournaments.

He helped Sweden win gold at the 2016 U17 World Hockey Challenge (scoring the championship-winning goal) and contributed to a bronze medal at the 2018 IIHF U18 World Championship, where he led defensemen in goals and points.

At the NHL level, he has been recognized for his offensive upside as a first-round pick and has earned occasional player of the game honors, such as the Islanders’ Iron Man Mask in 2026.
