Brayden Michael Schenn, born on August 22, 1991, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre currently playing for the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League (NHL).

The 6-foot-1, approximately 200-pound left-handed shooter has built a reputation as a skilled, gritty two-way forward with strong leadership qualities, physical play, and offensive instincts.

Drafted fifth overall in 2009, he has become a veteran presence known for his durability, having recently reached the 1,000-game milestone alongside his brother.

    Siblings

Brayden has one older brother, Luke Schenn, a longtime NHL defenseman who has played for several teams including the Toronto Maple Leafs, Philadelphia Flyers, and more recently the Winnipeg Jets and others.

The Schenn brothers have achieved the rare feat of both reaching 1,000 NHL games, becoming the first pair to do so in the same season and only the eighth set of brothers in NHL history to each hit the milestone.

Brayden and Luke grew up competing together, with their parents Jeff and Rita providing strong support.

    Career

Schenn developed through minor hockey in Saskatoon before starring in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Brandon Wheat Kings.

He had an outstanding junior career, earning multiple All-Star honors and leading the Wheat Kings deep into the playoffs.

The Los Angeles Kings selected him fifth overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, the same position his brother Luke had been picked two years earlier.

After a brief stint with the Kings, he was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers, where he played alongside Luke for a time and established himself as a top-six forward.

In 2017, he was traded to the St. Louis Blues, where he thrived as a key contributor and was named the 24th captain in franchise history in 2023.

He helped the Blues win the Stanley Cup in 2019.

In March 2026, Schenn was traded to the New York Islanders.

Over more than 1,100 NHL games, he has consistently produced points while bringing energy, faceoff ability, and playoff experience.

    Accolades

Schenn’s junior accolades include WHL Rookie of the Year, multiple WHL East All-Star Team selections, and CHL All-Rookie honors.

Internationally, he shone for Canada at the World Junior Championships, winning silver medals in 2010 and 2011.

In 2011, he was named tournament MVP, Top Forward, and earned All-Star Team honors while tying Canada’s single-tournament points record.

In the NHL, he has appeared in an All-Star Game (2018) and earned the Stanley Cup championship with the Blues in 2019.
