Andrew McCutchen is a veteran professional baseball outfielder and designated hitter currently playing for the Texas Rangers in Major League Baseball.

Born on October 10, 1986, in Fort Meade, Florida, the right-handed hitter stands 5-foot-10 and is renowned for his speed, powerful bat, exceptional plate discipline, and leadership both on and off the field.

Nicknamed “Cutch,” he was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates with the 11th overall pick in the 2005 MLB Draft out of Fort Meade High School.

McCutchen made his major league debut with the Pirates in 2009 and quickly became the face of the franchise during their resurgence in the early 2010s.

He has since played for the San Francisco Giants, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, and Milwaukee Brewers before returning to Pittsburgh for a second stint from 2023 to 2025.

In 2026, he signed a minor-league deal with the Texas Rangers and earned a spot on the Opening Day roster at age 39.

    Siblings

McCutchen grew up in a close and supportive family in Fort Meade, Florida, as the older of two children.

His parents, Lorenzo McCutchen and Petrina Swan, were both teenagers when Andrew was born.

Lorenzo had played college football as a running back at Carson-Newman University before returning home to help raise his son and eventually becoming a church minister.

Petrina worked steadily to support the family while instilling strong values of work ethic and faith.

Andrew has one younger sister named Loren, who graduated from Fort Meade High School and pursued studies in nursing at Florida A&M University.

    Career

McCutchen’s professional path started right after high school when the Pirates drafted him and he began climbing through their minor league system.

He debuted in the majors in 2009 and by 2011 had established himself as an elite center fielder with a blend of power, speed, and on-base skills.

His peak years with Pittsburgh from 2011 to 2015 saw the Pirates return to playoff contention for the first time in two decades, highlighted by back-to-back National League Central titles in 2013 and 2014.

After a decade with the Pirates, he was traded to the San Francisco Giants following the 2017 season.

McCutchen later had short stints with the New York Yankees in 2018 and the Philadelphia Phillies from 2019 to 2021, followed by a season with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2022.

He returned to Pittsburgh in 2023, where he continued to serve as a veteran leader and mentor.

In March 2026, McCutchen signed with the Texas Rangers and impressed enough in spring training to make the major league roster, extending his career into an 18th season.

Throughout his journey, he has been praised for his durability, clubhouse presence, and ability to perform in clutch situations despite occasional injuries.

    Accolades

McCutchen is a five-time National League All-Star, selected consecutively from 2011 to 2015.

In 2013, he captured the National League Most Valuable Player Award after leading the Pirates to the playoffs with a stellar season that included a .317 batting average, 21 home runs, and elite on-base percentage.

McCutchen also won the Gold Glove Award in 2012 for his outstanding defense in center field and claimed four consecutive Silver Slugger Awards from 2012 to 2015 as the top offensive outfielder in the National League.

In 2015, he received the prestigious Roberto Clemente Award for his sportsmanship, community involvement, and philanthropy.
