The US has announced an increased $25m (£20.4m) reward for information leading to the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on the day he was sworn in for a third six-year term in office.  The inauguration ceremony was overshadowed by recrimination from the international community and Venezuelan opposition leaders. A man who assaulted his sister in a domestic brawl was Friday charged in court.  Abdiaziz Abdullahi Hassan was charged before Makadara magistrate Caroline Mugo and denied the assault charges. The charge sheet read that on January 2, 2025 at about 6.30 pm at Jam Street in Eastleigh, Nairobi he unlawfully caused grievous harm to his sister Ridhwan Abdillahi Hassan. Hassan surrendered himself to the police for questioning at the Nairobi Area Regional DCI headquarters on Tuesday ahead of the plea taking. A light aircraft crashed and caught fire in the Kwachocha area of Malindi, near the Malindi-Mombasa Highway. The plane reportedly landed on several motorcycles in the vicinity on January 10, 2025. Police said there are fears of casualties. Other locals claimed there were three fatalities and three casualties. Video footage shared online showed parts of the plane lying on the road as a section of it was on fire, an indication that it burst into flames on impact. A court Thursday jailed businesswoman Joyce Akinyi for 25 years for trafficking of Sh5.6 million.  Her co-accused Paulin Kalala was jailed for 10 years and will pay a fine Sh9 million. South Korea’s presidential security chief resigned Friday as he faced questioning over why his guards prevented the detention of impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol and investigators prepared to make a fresh arrest attempt. Two drivers of two notorious public service vehicles (PSVs), which were impounded on Thursday for flouting traffic regulations were Friday arraigned at Kibera Law Courts in Nairobi. The matatus are linked to president William Ruto’s son George. They have been accused of harassing other road users and despising the law. Donald Trump has said that a meeting is being arranged between himself and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The US president-elect gave no timeline for when the meeting might take place. “He wants to meet and we are setting it up,” he said in remarks at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. Detectives are holding a fraud suspect who was found with 96 original Kenya national IDs belonging to different citizens, 10 dummy foldable Samsung phones, and several sim card plates among other suspected stolen items. This follows days of the hunt on the suspect in a case of stealing from a locked motor vehicle reported on January 3 in Pangani area, Nairobi. US aviation giant Boeing has told BBC News it is donating $1m (£812,600) to an inauguration fund for President-elect Donald Trump. Google has also confirmed that it has made a similar donation as the two firms join a growing list of major American companies contributing to the fund. The US Supreme Court has rejected President-elect Donald Trump’s last-minute bid to halt his sentencing on Friday in the criminal hush-money case.
