Police were Friday granted an application to detain three suspects for 14 days in connection with the murder of a businessman during a scuffle in a club in Kisii Town. This is after businessman Jeremiah Mogaka Nyamweya, 37 succumbed to injuries he sustained during the scuffle on March 10. African Union Executive Council Friday unanimously adopted a critical decision that it is the turn of the Eastern Africa region to submit candidates for the position of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC).  The elections will be held in February 2025. The US Embassy Friday March 15 warned its citizens of increased crime rates in Nairobi estates. In an advisory the Embassy warned its citizens residing in Nairobi to take caution even as they go about their business. “There are reports of increased criminal activity in residential areas of Nairobi,” the Embassy said. “Incidents include crimes of opportunity such as purse and phone snatching,” the advisory reads. Multi agency teams are investigating an incident in which a businessman was brutally shot and killed outside his shop in Bura East, Garissa County. The businessman was shot at close range in the head and died on the spot in the March 13 incident, police said. 18 Ethiopians were Thursday arrested in a village in Wajir for being in the country. They were arrested in Korondile Township days after they had arrived there from the Kenya-Ethiopia border. The National Assembly Cohesion and Equal Opportunities Committee will conduct an inquiry into employment of 1,406 Revenue Service Assistants by Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA). The committee chaired by Yussuf Haji reached this resolution following reports that 133 recruits were dropped after they were subjected to HIV and pregnancy tests among other insubstantial reasons. Kenyans can breathe easy after the government reduced Super petrol prices by Sh7.21 despite higher landing costs.  The prices of diesel dropped by Sh5.09 and that of kerosene by Sh4.49. In the monthly review issued by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), landed cost for super petrol increased by 5.6 per cent to $703 compared to last month. That of diesel dropped by 0.76 per cent to $722.49 while that of kerosene increased by 1.65 per cent to $730.50.
