Kenyans can breathe easy after the government reduced Super petrol prices by Sh7.21 despite higher landing costs.  The prices of diesel dropped by Sh5.09 and that of kerosene by Sh4.49. In the monthly review issued by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), landed cost for super petrol increased by 5.6 per cent to $703 compared to last month. That of diesel dropped by 0.76 per cent to $722.49 while that of kerosene increased by 1.65 per cent to $730.50. At least 16 suspects were Thursday arrested in an operation launched in Ndori area after a senior police officer was stoned to death during a crackdown on suspected illicit alcohol in Siaya County. Police said the suspects led a team to a site where they had hidden a Ceska pistol that they robbed from the slain officer. The government moved to restore order in parts of Moyale in Marsabit County where seven people were killed in a fight between gangs over the control of gold mining sites. Four other people are admitted in hospital with injuries following skirmishes between gangs over the control of the sites. A court in Rwanda has blocked efforts by prominent opposition figure Victoire Ingabire to lift a ban on her running in July’s presidential election. She was freed in 2018 after spending eight years in prison for threatening state security and “belittling” the 1994 genocide. The Public Service Commission (PSC) has denied appointing former News Anchor Jacque Maribe as the Head of Communications at the Public Service Ministry. In a statement on Thursday, PSC said no such appointment has been made “neither has a request to employ her been received by the board”. Contingents of police officers were Thursday sent to Oyude area, Rarieda, Siaya County to hunt down a gang that stoned to death a senior police officer during a failed operation to recover suspected illicit alcohol. Police said Inspector Simon Mwangi Kariuki of Ndori police station was attacked by villagers as he and another officer arrested a notorious brew dealer in the area. Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) the Principal of Keekonyokie Mixed Day Secondary School in Narok County, for claims of bribery.  The principal was arrested on Wednesday on charges of soliciting a bribe from a businessman who supplied general merchandise to the school. According to EACC spokesperson Eric Ngumbi, the principal was arrested after being caught accepting a bribe of Sh40,000. The Cabinet Wednesday endorsed measures the government has taken in the fight against illegal brews and narcotic drugs. These measures, announced by the Interior ministry, include a 21-day suspension of all the 52 licences and permits issued to manufacturers and distillers of second generation alcohol, revocation of all bar licences issued by counties against the law and an audit of conflict of interest within the ranks of enforcement agencies.
