    Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore Is Dead

    Safaricom Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bob Collymore is dead.

    According to a statement by Safaricom chairman Nicholas Nganga, Collymore passed away at his home on Monday morning.

    Bob had been suffering from cancer, and his condition had worsened recently.

    In the statement, Mr Ng’ang’a noted: “It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing away of Robert (Bob) William Collymore CEO Safaricom which occurred at his home.”

    In October 2017, Collymore traveled to the United Kingdom to receive treatment and returned in July last year to resume his duties.

    Lately, he had been receiving treatment at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi.

    “On behalf of the Board of Safaricom, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, staff, partners and the nation at large who he served selflessly with joy,” Nganga stated.

    President Uhuru Kenyatta has led the nation in mourning Bob. He wrote expressing his condolences to the family and friends.

    Uhuru mentioned that the country has lost, “a distinguished corporate leader whose contribution to our national wellbeing will be missed.”

    Opposition leader Raila Odinga also affirmed that Bob had served the country with dedication and sustained the communication hub in Africa.
