Police have launched investigations after the body of an unidentified man was discovered floating in the ocean at Bofa Beach in Kilifi County.

According to police, the incident was reported at about 12:20 p.m. on Monday after members of the public spotted a body wrapped in clothing material drifting in the water.

A team responded to the scene and retrieved the body from the ocean.

Authorities described the deceased as an unknown male adult believed to be of Caucasian or Arab origin, estimated to be about 65 years old. The body was wrapped in a blanket and was partially decomposed at the time of recovery.

Crime scene investigators documented and processed the scene before the body was moved to the mortuary at Kilifi County Hospital for preservation.

Police said efforts to identify the deceased are ongoing, while an autopsy is expected to establish the cause of death.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are continuing.

The team handling the case said they suspect the man was murdered elsewhere and the body dumped in the water.

    The motive is being investigated.

Meanwhile, two passengers were shot and injured while others were robbed of cash after armed attackers hijacked a public service vehicle in Makueni County.

According to police, the incident occurred at about 5:40 a.m. at Kalulu area in Kibwezi Sub-County after a Nissan PSV matatu travelling from Kambu to Makindu stopped to pick up passengers.

Investigators said two of the passengers who boarded the vehicle, wearing face masks, turned out to be armed robbers.

The suspects allegedly demanded to know the identity of one passenger and ordered him to alight from the vehicle.

The attackers then forced the driver to lie down beside the vehicle before firing a shot from a 9mm firearm into the air, causing panic among people at the stage who fled for safety.

In the ensuing confrontation, the gunmen shot one man in the right hip. The bullet reportedly exited and struck a woman in the stomach, leaving both men seriously injured.

The victims were rushed to Kambu Sub-County Hospital and later referred to Makindu Sub-County Hospital for specialised treatment.

Police said the robbers also stole Sh83,000 from a woman and Sh50,000 from another passenger before driving away with the matatu.

The stolen vehicle was later recovered abandoned in the Ngwata area and towed to Mtito Andei Police Station.

Police visited the scene and recovered two spent 9mm cartridges, which were retained as exhibits.

Detectives have launched investigations and are pursuing the armed suspects behind the attack.
