A burglary suspect died after falling from a roof of a shop he and his accomplices were stealing in Kehancha, Migori County.

Police said they responded to screams of a shop attendant who said four suspected thieves were in his shop after dismantling the roof on Monday.

The responding team fired to the air to scare the gang prompting three of them to escape. One of them was trapped on the rooftop and tried to jump off and escape but fell headfirst sustaining serious injuries.

Police said he bled to death.

Some of the stolen items were recovered at the scene. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other investigations.

And detectives are pursuing a gang that raided a petrol station and robbed the attendants of cash and other valuables in Ziwa area, Soy, Uasin Gishu County.

The incident happened on Monday dawn, police said of the attack at the Stabex Petrol Station.

A rider had gone to the station at about 2 am to refill his tank when he heard the attendants screaming for help.

Instead of helping, he dashed to a local police station and informed police. Police responded there and found a guard and two attendants tied and placed under a lorry and the station offices.

They had been robbed of their mobile phones and other valuables. The gang of four who were wearing uniforms resembling those of police also accessed the safe and stole an unknown amount of money. The money was the weekend collection.

They also harassed and roughed up the attendants as they demanded money while armed with knives.

During the incident, the thugs disconnected the alarm and CCTV system to avoid being identified and detected.

Police said they are investigating the attack. The gang had arrived on a saloon car and pretended to be in need of fuel before turning violent, the attendants said.
