Police have launched investigations into the murder of a 43-year-old businesswoman whose body was discovered inside her house in Lari Sub-county, Kiambu County.

The victim, Nancy Njeri Kimani, was found dead on Friday morning at her home in Nduriri area after what detectives believe was a violent attack.

According to police, a team visited the scene after receiving a report of the suspected murder.

The victim’s body was found lying on its back on the bedroom floor. Police observed a deep cut running through the middle of her face, while blood was oozing from her ears. The bedroom floor and bed were soaked in blood.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Nancy had closed her animal feeds shop within her compound at about 8.30 p.m. on Thursday alongside her colleague, before each retired to their respective houses, located about 20 metres apart.

On Friday at around 6.15 a.m., the colleague went to open her shop and found the door already open.

Upon entering, she discovered that Sh5,000 had been stolen. She then noticed that Nancy’s shop was also open, with the deceased’s keys lying on the floor.

After unsuccessfully calling out to Nancy at her house, the colleague alerted neighbours, who responded and found the businesswoman dead inside her bedroom.

Crime scene investigators processed the scene before the body was moved to Uphome Funeral Services Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Police have arrested two suspects to assist with investigations into the murder. Detectives are continuing with inquiries to establish the motive behind the killing.

Meanwhile, police in Homa Bay County are investigating the death of a 56-year-old man who is believed to have succumbed to burn injuries while attempting to put out a fire that spread from his land to a neighbouring farm.

The incident was reported on Friday afternoon at Kukoruc Village in Boya Sub-location, Ndhiwa Sub-county.

Police visited the scene and found the body of Charles Otieno lying on the boundary separating his father’s land and that of a neighbour, identified as Isaiah Awiti.

Police said both parcels of land had been extensively burned. The deceased’s body had severe burn injuries, and his gumboots had also been burned.

Preliminary investigations established that Charles had been burning sugarcane residue on his land when the fire spread to the neighbouring property. He is believed to have attempted to extinguish the flames but was overwhelmed and sustained fatal injuries.

The body was reportedly discovered at around 1 p.m. by a juvenile identified as Collins Omondi, who alerted local authorities.

Scene of Crime officers processed the area before the body was moved to Pala Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Police have classified the incident as a suspected accidental death, pending further investigations to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal fire.
