The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has invited innovators, entrepreneurs, technology companies and researchers to apply for admission into its Emerging Technologies Regulatory Sandbox for the 2026/2027 financial year.

In a notice issued on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, CA Director General David Mugonyi said the initiative is part of the Authority’s commitment to fostering innovation, promoting market growth and enhancing consumer protection in Kenya’s rapidly evolving information and communications technology (ICT) sector.

Mugonyi said the Regulatory Sandbox provides a controlled environment where innovators can test new digital communication products, services and business models that may fall outside existing regulatory frameworks.

He noted that the programme also promotes collaboration between innovators and the regulator across key areas, including broadcasting, cybersecurity, multimedia, telecommunications, e-commerce, postal and courier services.

“CA is pleased to invite interested and eligible innovators, entrepreneurs, technology companies and researchers to apply for admission into its Emerging Technologies Regulatory Sandbox for the Financial Year 2026/2027,” Mugonyi said.

The Authority is seeking applications from innovators working in a wide range of emerging technologies, including next-generation networks such as 5G and 6G applications, Internet of Things (IoT) and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications, Over-The-Top (OTT) services, digital broadcasting and content delivery innovations, cybersecurity solutions, spectrum management technologies, artificial intelligence (AI) applications in ICT, and accessibility technologies targeting underserved and unserved populations.

Interested applicants are required to submit their applications through the Regulatory Sandbox portal at https://sandbox.ca.go.ke/ on or before July 30, 2026.

The Regulatory Sandbox is designed to support the safe testing of innovative technologies while enabling the Communications Authority to assess emerging trends and develop appropriate regulatory frameworks that encourage innovation without compromising consumer protection or market integrity.
