Cameron Norrie is a British professional tennis player born on 23 August 1995 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
His parents, David Norrie from Glasgow, Scotland, and Helen Norrie from Cardiff, Wales, are both microbiologists who were working in South Africa at the time of his birth.
When Cameron was around three years old, the family relocated to Auckland, New Zealand, after a traumatic burglary at their home.
He grew up there, developing an interest in multiple sports including cricket, rugby, football, and squash before focusing on tennis.
He began playing tennis at age six using a squash racquet in the family driveway after being introduced to the sport by his mother.
Norrie initially represented New Zealand as a junior, reaching a high ITF combined ranking.
He switched allegiance to Great Britain in 2013, the nationality of both his parents, partly due to better funding and support opportunities.
He moved to London as a teenager to train, later attended Texas Christian University on a scholarship where he studied sociology and became the top-ranked college player in the United States.

Cameron has one sibling, an older sister named Bronwen Norrie, born on 14 September 1992.
The brother and sister share a close bond forged through their family’s moves across countries and a shared upbringing in Auckland, New Zealand.
While Cameron pursued professional tennis, Bronwen followed a path in law and legal affairs.
She attended Macleans College in Auckland and later studied for a Bachelor of Laws at Utrecht University.
Her early career included volunteering with the Equal Justice Project and Youth Law Center, serving as an InZone mentor, and working as a placement lawyer at the Waitemata Community Law Center.

Career
Norrie’s tennis journey began in New Zealand, where he excelled as a junior before moving to London at age 16 to train at the National Tennis Centre and represent Great Britain.
After three years there, he accepted a scholarship at Texas Christian University from 2015 to 2017. He helped the team reach the NCAA Final Four and finished as the nation’s top-ranked collegiate player.
He turned professional during the 2017 grass-court season.
Early progress included Challenger titles and his ATP Tour breakthrough. In 2021, he claimed his first ATP singles title at the Los Cabos Open.
He then captured the prestigious Indian Wells Masters 1000 title, defeating Nikoloz Basilashvili in the final.
The following year brought further success with titles at the Delray Beach Open and the Lyon Open on clay.
He also made a career-best Grand Slam run to the semi-finals at Wimbledon, where he became one of only a handful of British men in the Open era to reach that stage.
In 2023, he won the Rio Open, an ATP 500 event, defeating Carlos Alcaraz in the final.
Norrie has been a consistent presence in the upper echelons of the rankings, holding the British No. 1 position for extended periods.

He also holds one ATP doubles title. His career-high singles ranking of world No. 8 was achieved on 12 September 2022.
This made him the fourth British man to enter the ATP top 10. Reaching the Wimbledon semi-finals in 2022 stands as his best Grand Slam result.
