    cameroon loses afcon hosting rights

Confederation of African Football (CAF) has relieved Cameroon of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations hosting rights.

The huge call was taken Friday during the body’s Executive Committee Extraordinary meeting in Accra – Ghana.

Cameroon was awarded the rights in September 2014 under unclear circumstances under the then CAF boss Issa Hayatou, a native of the Central African nation.

At the time of the award, the flagship football tournament in Africa had not expanded from 16 to 24 teams.

Cameroon was therefore called upon to adjust to the new changes midair.

According to reports from Accra, the country will not be ready in time to host the 32nd edition of the tournament with construction/renovation work on the six stadiums that were earmarked for the games running late.

CAF will now open a fresh bid for a new host with Morocco and Egypt touted as the likely candidates to bag the rights.
