Chelsea will not defend their FA Cup crown following a 2-0 defeat against Manchester United in the round of 16 on Monday night.

Two first-half goals from Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba ended the struggling Blues’ quest to retain the title they won last season.

Man Utd caretaker coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hailed his tactics against the hosts saying they worked.

“The performance was fantastic, the tactics worked. Obviously we asked Ander and Paul, our midfielders, next to Nemanja to go a bit higher up and get into the box more often, with Marcus and Romelu wider.

So we worked [on it] and the defending in the second half, when we had to, was fantastic. Chris has been out two months and just played one game and he was brilliant.”

The Red Devils will take on Wolves in the quarterfinals in another away trip.

Under pressure Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri said “we were unlucky with the result as we were the better team in the first half but trailed 2-0.”

He added that “our football in the second half was confusing against a side who defended deep.”
