    Early Life

Chloe Sun Kim was born on April 23, 2000, in Long Beach, California, and grew up in Torrance. Her parents immigrated from South Korea to the United States before she was born.

She first stepped onto a snowboard at the age of four and began competing just two years later. Recognizing her exceptional talent, her father dedicated much of his time to supporting her career, frequently driving long distances so she could train at Mammoth Mountain, one of the country’s top snowboarding destinations.

Kim later became fluent in English, Korean, and French and joined the U.S. Snowboarding Team in 2013.

    Snowboarding Career

Kim quickly established herself as one of the brightest young talents in snowboarding.

At just 14 years old, she became one of the youngest athletes ever to win a gold medal at the Winter X Games. She also made history as the first woman to land back-to-back 1080-degree spins in competition.

Her dominance continued at the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics, where she won gold in the halfpipe with a record-breaking score and served as Team USA’s flag bearer.

    Olympic Success

Kim became an international superstar at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, where she won the women’s halfpipe gold medal at just 17 years old.

She cemented her legacy four years later by defending her title at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, becoming the first woman to win consecutive Olympic gold medals in snowboard halfpipe.

Her Olympic success also made her the first snowboarder to capture titles at the Winter Olympics, Winter X Games, Winter Youth Olympics, and World Championships.

Return Ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics

Following the Beijing Games, Kim briefly stepped away from competition, citing burnout and the need to focus on her mental health.

She returned to competition in dominant fashion by winning another World Championship title in 2025.

Her preparations for the 2026 Winter Olympics were briefly interrupted after she suffered a shoulder injury during training in Switzerland. Despite the setback, Kim recovered in time and entered the Milan Winter Games aiming to become the first snowboarder in history to win three consecutive Olympic halfpipe gold medals.

    Endorsements

Chloe Kim has one of the strongest endorsement portfolios in winter sports.

She has partnered with several major global brands, including Nike, Monster Energy, Mountain Dew, Visa, Toyota, Target, Kellogg’s, Beats by Dre, Breitling, and Moncler.

These sponsorship agreements are estimated to earn her around $4 million per year, making endorsements the biggest contributor to her overall net worth.

    Personal Life

Kim has spoken openly about dealing with online abuse, racism, and the mental pressure that comes with becoming a global sports star at a young age.

She has become an advocate for mental health awareness among athletes and has encouraged fellow competitors to prioritize their well-being alongside sporting success.

Away from competition, Kim enjoys traveling, fashion, and spending time with family and friends.

    Awards

Throughout her career, Chloe Kim has received numerous honors for her achievements on and off the snow.

She is a two-time Olympic gold medalist, multiple-time World Champion, and multiple-time Winter X Games champion. She has also appeared on Time magazine’s list of the world’s most influential people and has won several ESPY Awards.
