Clayton Davis Keller is an American professional ice hockey forward and captain for the Utah Mammoth of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Born on July 29, 1998, in Chesterfield, Missouri, he was raised in Swansea, Illinois, by his parents Bryan and Kelley Keller.

Keller shoots left and has established himself as one of the NHL’s skilled playmakers and scorers despite his smaller stature.

He was selected seventh overall by the Arizona Coyotes in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft and has become a cornerstone of his franchise, later captaining the team through its transition to Utah.

    Siblings

Clayton has one sibling, a younger brother named Jake Keller, who is four years his junior and was born on July 30, 2002, also in the Swansea, Illinois area.

Jake has followed in Clayton’s footsteps as a junior ice hockey player in the North American Hockey League (NAHL).

The two have shared a close bond, with Clayton publicly referring to Jake as his “favorite brother” on social media.

Their parents, Bryan (a businessman and CPA) and Kelley Keller, supported both sons’ hockey pursuits, often with help from extended family.

    Career

Keller’s hockey journey began early, with a strong foundation from the Shattuck-St. Mary’s program and the U.S. National Team Development Program (NTDP), where he set a career points record of 189.

He spent one standout season at Boston University in 2016-17, earning multiple rookie honors before turning professional.

He made his NHL debut with the Arizona Coyotes in 2017 and quickly emerged as a top performer, leading the team in points as a rookie with 65 (23 goals and 42 assists).

Over his career with the Coyotes (later the Utah Mammoth), he has played in more than 680 games, accumulating over 220 goals and 370 assists for nearly 600 points.

Known for his vision, hockey sense, and consistency, Keller has served as an alternate captain and then full captain.

He has represented the United States internationally, contributing to gold medal wins and showcasing leadership.

Tragically, his father Bryan passed away unexpectedly in late 2025, yet Keller demonstrated resilience by playing soon after and honoring his family’s support.

    Accolades

In his rookie NHL season, Keller was a finalist for the Calder Trophy as the league’s top newcomer.

He has been selected to the NHL All-Star Game and earned various honors during his college year, including Hockey East Rookie of the Year, Hockey East Second Team All-Star, and national rookie accolades.

Internationally, he has won gold at the IIHF World U18 Championship (2015) and World Junior Championship (2017), plus a bronze at the 2016 U18 event.

He was named MVP of the 2016 U18 World Championship and earned All-Star and All-Tournament honors at junior levels.
