Detectives in Nairobi launched investigations following the discovery of a decomposing body inside a house in Kayole.

The body of Antony Murimi Kabaka, a 40-year-old man, was found on Sunday afternoon at an apartment within the Obama area of Kayole Sub-County.

According to police, the incident was reported by a caretaker after a tenant from a neighbouring house raised concern over a foul smell emanating from the adjacent unit.

Upon confirming the stench, the caretaker alerted authorities.

Police visited the scene and broke into the house, which had been locked from the inside.

Inside, they discovered the decomposing body of the deceased lying in the kitchen.

Crime scene investigators processed and documented the area. Preliminary observations indicated that the body had visible head injuries, which police suspect may have been caused by a fall. No other major injuries were noted.

The body was moved to Mama Lucy Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination.

Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause of death.

Elsewhere, police are investigating two separate cases of electrocution.

The first one was reported in Kisumu County which led to the death of a 28-year-old Burundian national in Nyalenda area.

The deceased, identified as Sibomana Claudy, was reportedly electrocuted on Sunday afternoon while cooking crisps for sale inside his house.

Preliminary findings indicate that the victim was preparing food when the electrocution occurred. His wife stated that he was rushed to Lumumba Hospital in Kondele, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police officers later visited the hospital and confirmed the incident.

The body was subsequently moved to Kisumu County Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.

Meanwhile, police in Bungoma South Sub-County are investigating an electrocution incident that claimed the life of a 14-year-old boy in Namirembe Location.

The incident was reported at around 5:00 p.m. on May 2, 2026, but is said to have occurred earlier at about 1:00 p.m. in Nambalai Village, approximately six kilometres south of Ndengelwa Police Patrol Base.

The deceased, identified as Nelson Barasa Wafula, a Grade 7 pupil at Ekitale Primary School, was reportedly heading home after fetching water when he stepped on a live wire.

Preliminary investigations established that the wire had been illegally connected from the home of a woman to a neighbouring homestead where burial preparations were underway.

Police believe the illegal electricity connection had been set up on April 30, 2026, to support activities related to the burial.

The scene was processed and documented by crime scene investigators before the body was moved to Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

Authorities have launched investigations into the illegal power connection, which is believed to have led to the fatal incident.

Cases of electrocution have been on the rise in various places. They have been linked to illegal power connections and use of quacks in wiring.

Kenya Power officials have been notified as investigations continue to establish the exact cause of the electrocution.
