Detectives are investigating an incident where a 46-year-old police woman was found dead in bushes at Kagira in Kabete, Nairobi County.

This was after a man reportedly told police that he had killed his wife and dumped her body in the area.

Police who responded to the scene said they found hammer and a Maasai sword and kept as exhibits. They are believed to have been used in her brutal murder even as the motive remained unknown.

The incident was reported at Kabetе Police Station on Thursday, September 3, after the police received information from a person who claimed to have killed his wife.

Police officers from Kabete Police Station responded and conducted a search in Kagira, where they recovered the body of an adult woman. They did not know the victim was one of them.

Police said the woman had visible injuries to the head, suspected to have been inflicted with a blunt object, which is a hammer.

She also had injuries on her left hand, while marks on her legs suggested she may have been tightly bound with a rope.

Identification documents found during a search of the body, including a police identification card which identified the deceased as Sergeant Gladys Nyaguthe Kirika, police aged 46.

Kirika was attached to Subuiga Police Station in Buuri West Sub-County, Meru County.

Scene-of-crime personnel processed the scene before the body was removed to PCEA Kikuyu Funeral Home, where it awaits further examination.

Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing are ongoing.

The said husband had to be rescued by the locals and police as he attempted to die by suicide.

He had called police to report the murder and later went to attempt to hang himself in the house, police said adding he had been admitted to hospital in a stable condition.

There was no one in the house then, police said.

Police said they had not established the motive of the murder and attempted suicide.

They however suspect domestic disputes to be the cause.

Colleagues described the late female cop as a hardworking and obedient officer.
