The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Leagues & Competitions Committee has ruled that Mara Sugar FC will advance to the next round of the Mozzart Bet Cup following the abandonment of their match against AFC Leopards SC.
The game, which was set to take place on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Mamboleo, Kisumu, was called off in the 89th minute after AFC Leopards fans stormed the pitch in protest.
The incident occurred after the referee reversed an earlier penalty decision in favor of AFC Leopards, triggering an angry reaction from their supporters.
The committee found AFC Leopards fans responsible for the matchās abandonment, citing their unlawful invasion of the field.
āIn accordance with Article 6.4(iv) of the Mozzart Bet Cup Regulations, read alongside Article 3.5.6 of the FKF Rules & Regulations Governing Kenyan Football, AFC Leopards SC shall forfeit the match, and Mara Sugar FC is awarded the victory and will progress to the next round of the competition,ā the committee stated.
Additionally, AFC Leopards has been warned over the misconduct of its supporters and advised to take necessary measures to prevent future cases of hooliganism and violence during matches.
The FKF Committee has also confirmed that a detailed report explaining the full reasoning behind the decision will be issued within 21 days.
