President Uhuru Kenyatta has ordered for the procurement of government tenders and awards details to be published from 1 July, 2018.

The Statehouse Spokesperson, Manoah Esipisu said that President Uhuru ordered for names of winning firms to be made public, the goods or service purchased, contract prices and the particulars of suppliers, beneficiaries to be published.

“The publication will allow members of the public to access the information – which information shall include the items or services purchased, contract prices, and the particulars of the suppliers including owners, directors and beneficial ownership,” the statement read in part.

This move is to ensure that there is transparency in the government and the public has access to such information, in order to reduce graft in government offices.

In addition to that, from January 1 2019, all procurement of tenders in government offices will be done through an electronic platform of the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS).

“The Cabinet Secretary National Treasury has been directed to guarantee the integrity of the system, and secure the seamless integration of all public procuring entities,” Esipisu said.
