Gracing the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is one of the greatest honors in African football.

Kenya for the sixth time and for the first time in 15 years will be taking part in the biennial tournament set for Egypt from 21st June to 19th July and all plans are almost set for the big return.

To ensure the experience is unforgettable for the players and they are sufficiently motivated and well prepared, the team will camp in France from 27th May to 16th June.

On top of that, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has revealed to Kahawa Tungu an elaborate reward scheme for the boys.

To start with, if team does the unthinkable and delivers that biggest prize, then they will share Ksh120 million. But even if they don’t, the players will still be smiling all the way to the bank.

A squad of 26 players will make the trip to France but only 23 will travel to Egypt for the finals. The 23 will each pocket Ksh500,000 while the three who will return to Nairobi will carry home Ksh250,000.

For every win, each player will pocket Ksh250,000 with a winning draw attracting a similar package. According to the FKF, a winning draw is one which ensures progression.

The AFCON budget was passed by the Parliament and so far the government has transferred almost all the entire Ksh224 million to the FKF account.

The draw for the 32nd edition of the continental showpiece is set for Friday at 9.00pm Kenyan time. Kenya has never gone past the group stage in all their previous five appearances.
