Senator Hassan Omar has today announced hotelier Linda Mariwa Shuma as his running mate. Hassan is the Wiper candidate for the Mombasa Gubernatorial seat.
Shuma is an entrepreneur who runs a catering management business dealing with corporate and social events. She is the president of Lions Club Mombasa Bahari branch.
At a presser in Mombasa, Omar exuded confidence in unseating the incumbent Joho. Omar has likened his ‘revolution’ to that which led to the removal of Egyptian strongman Hosni Mubarak from power saying women will be actively involved in his quest to clinch the top county seat.
Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho also picked a new running mate in the recent past. His alleged pick was the county secretary Francis Thoya. This was after his deputy governor, Hazel Katana, defected to Jubilee party.
Mombasa county will witness a heated race for the governorship with Joho defending his seat against senator Hassan Omar of Wiper Democratic Movement, Suleiman Shahbal (Jubilee Party) and Nyali MP Hezron Awiti of Vibrant Democratic Party (VDP).
Shahbal has chosen former Kisauni MP Ananiah Mwaboza as his running mate while Awiti has gone for Hassan Bakari Mwamtoa, a banker.
