    You do not need the Capitec banking app to buy prepaid electricity. Capitec offers Cellphone Banking through USSD, allowing registered clients to purchase electricity directly from their bank account using any mobile phone. This service is available without an internet connection and is ideal if you do not have a smartphone or prefer not to use the app. Learning how to buy electricity on Capitec without the app helps you top up your prepaid meter quickly and securely.

      • Select the Electricity Option
      • Enter the Purchase Details
      • Receive Your Electricity Token

      Register for Capitec Cellphone Banking

    Before you can use the USSD service, you must be registered for Capitec Cellphone Banking.

    If you have not yet registered, visit your nearest Capitec branch to activate the service and create your Mobile Banking PIN.

    • Register for Cellphone Banking
    • Create your Mobile Banking PIN
    • Keep your PIN confidential
    1. Dial the Capitec USSD Code

    Using your registered cellphone number, dial *120*3279#.

    If you do not have airtime on your phone, you can dial *130*3279#, which is free to access for Capitec Mobile Banking.

    • Dial 1203279#
    • Or dial 1303279# if you have no airtime
    • Wait for the menu to load
    1. Select the Electricity Option

    From the USSD menu, choose Buy, then select Electricity.

    Next, choose the Capitec account you want to use for the payment.

    • Select Buy
    • Choose Electricity
    • Select the account to debit
    1. Enter the Purchase Details

    Type in your prepaid electricity meter number and enter the amount you want to spend.

    Review the information carefully before confirming the transaction with your Mobile Banking PIN.

    • Enter your meter number
    • Specify the purchase amount
    • Enter your Mobile Banking PIN to confirm
    1. Receive Your Electricity Token

    After the transaction is successful, your prepaid electricity token will be displayed on your phone and sent to you by SMS.

    Enter the token into your electricity meter to load the purchased units. You can also use the USSD service to view your last electricity token if needed.

    • Check your electricity token
    • Load the token into your meter
    • Save the SMS for future reference
