The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has announced it is fully prepared to handle an expected surge in visitors to national parks and reserves during the Easter holiday season.
In a statement on Thursday, KWS outlined a wide-ranging strategy to ensure both visitor safety and continued wildlife conservation during the busy travel period from April 18 to 27, 2025.
All parks will maintain their regular opening hours of 6am to 6pm.
KWS has deployed additional staff at major entrances and busy sections of parks to help with crowd control and provide visitor support.
Roads, rest areas, and other park infrastructure have undergone inspections and repairs to ensure they are in good condition throughout the holiday.
“Security measures have been significantly reinforced through increased patrols and closer collaboration with national law enforcement agencies. This multi-agency approach aims to deter illegal activities while ensuring rapid response capabilities for any emergencies that may arise,” KWS said.
Visitors will also see more park personnel along roads and trails enforcing rules on wildlife interaction, speed limits, and restricted areas to keep both people and animals safe.
KWS has set up help desks at major parks to handle questions and offer assistance. New signage has also been added across parks to guide visitors on safety rules and regulations.
Tourists are encouraged to book their visits in advance through the KWS eCitizen portal (kws.ecitizen.go.ke) to avoid delays at entry points, especially on busy days.
This year’s preparations include the launch of a new campaign titled “Easter Moto Moto in Kenya Parks,” which is aimed at encouraging more Kenyans to explore local wildlife destinations. The campaign includes a variety of special offers and activities to attract domestic tourists.
Tour operators bringing groups of 10 Kenyan tourists will get a complimentary entry pass valid throughout the campaign period.
KWS is also offering a 10% discount on accommodation at Mbugani Home for bookings made between April 18 and 27, with the discount extended through June 30, 2025.
In addition, the first domestic visitors to ten selected parks, such as Meru National Park and Shimba Hills National Reserve, will receive gifts during the first five days of the campaign. In Nairobi National Park, a free shuttle service will run from Good Friday to Easter Monday to ease traffic and improve access.
KWS has partnered with lodges and hotels inside and around the parks, who are offering additional promotions to support the campaign.
The service has urged all visitors to come prepared for changing weather conditions by packing the right clothes, sunscreen, and drinking water.
Tourists are reminded to respect the environment by disposing of waste responsibly and avoiding single-use plastics.
