The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has introduced a new digital payments system known as KWSPay, which will replace the old eCitizen platform for booking and paying for park entry and other KWS services.

In a statement issued on November 1, KWS said the new system is designed to make payments easier and more efficient for both local and international visitors.

“The transition from the old eCitizen platform to the upgraded system branded as KWSPay introduces a more seamless and flexible process for booking and making payments,” KWS said.

Under the new system, visitors can pay using bank cards, bank transfers, M-Pesa, and e-wallets. The system went live on November 1, 2025, at 6 pm.

KWS added that detailed instructions on how to use KWSPay are available on both the eCitizen and KWS websites.

To manage inflation and currency fluctuations, transactions will apply a monthly exchange rate based on Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) rates. An administrative fee and a 5 percent gateway fee will also be charged for online payments.

KWS Director General Erustus Kanga assured the public that KWSPay is part of efforts to improve customer service.

“KWS and eCitizen remain committed to providing efficient, transparent, and customer-friendly payment services to improve access to Kenya’s national parks and sanctuaries,” he said.

The new system will allow tourists to pay park entry fees before arrival, helping to reduce queues and congestion at park gates.
