Mali Prime Minister and his whole government have resigned from office following a massacre of 160 people.

A statement issued by the President’s office noted: “The President accepts the resignation of the Prime Minister and that of the members of the government.”

However, President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita’s office did not explain why the Prime Minister Soumeylou Boubeye Maiga resigned.

On Wednesday, the legislators had discussed to pass a possible motion of no confidence in the government because of the massacre and failure of it to disarm militias.

On March 23, 160 Fulani herders were killed by an ethnic vigilante group that left the Mali nation in shock.

These killings followed a deadly assault by jihadists on an army post that left at least 23 soldiers dead.

Following the gruesome murders, the Malian authorities have detained five people suspected of taking part in the massacre.

However, they are yet to succeed in disarming the militia that many believe organized it, despite pledges by Maiga and Keita to do so.
